Oke-Aremo Forum Tells Oba Alli to Forsake Politics and Embrace His Royal Duties

Oke-Aremo Forum Tells Oba Alli to Forsake Politics and Embrace His Royal Duties

The Oke-Aremo Development Forum has congratulated Oba Sharafadeen Alli on his elevation to Ekeerin Balogun of Ibadanland and urged him to abandon any governorship ambition. In a joint statement, the Forum highlighted that the prestige and permanence of a traditional stool far outweigh the limited tenure of a political office. It called on Oba Alli to preserve the dignity of his family’s heritage and serve as a unifying custodian of Ibadan culture. The group also mourned the late Osi Balogun, Oba Olubunmi Isioye Dada, and prayed for strength for his family and the people of Ibadanland. Referencing the official Gazette of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs, the Forum stressed that mixing partisan politics with a revered royal title could distract from the responsibilities of cultural leadership and weaken the unity and development of Ibadanland.

What should Oba Alli consider more important: the long-term prestige of his stool or the immediate impact of holding political office?

I'm curious, how does the forum define Oba Alli's core role as a traditional ruler versus a political leader?

The Forum's focus on permanence overlooks how traditional leaders have shaped political decisions behind the scenes for generations.

Advising him to abandon any political ambition completely might limit his community's voice in policy discussions that affect Ibadanland.

He could back a trusted candidate for governor while dedicating time to fulfill his ceremonial duties and preserve tradition.
