A Federal High Court judge has sentenced Halima Haliru Umar to 20 years in prison after she admitted possessing 302 live rounds of AK-47 ammunition and seeking to support terrorist acts. During her arraignment, the defendant pleaded guilty to two counts of unlawful ammunition possession and terrorism support. She accepted the facts presented by the prosecution without offering a defence. The judge imposed 20 years on the ammunition count and one year on the terrorism support count. The court will reconvene on July 9 to begin trial on the two remaining charges, to which the accused has pleaded not guilty.
