Parents Charged After Alleged Hospital Murder of One-Day-Old Infant
Authorities in Pennsylvania have arrested 28-year-old Kevin Canaan and 25-year-old Yennifer Tavarez-Cepeda. They face charges of criminal homicide, aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child. Prosecutors say the couple abused their seemingly healthy newborn son in a private recovery room at Tower Health Reading Hospital on May 2. Medical staff discovered the baby in distress and rushed him to Penn State Hershey Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy by the Berks County District Attorney’s Office revealed multiple traumatic internal injuries. Investigators opened a probe after doctors noted the injuries could not have occurred during the birth.
