Akpabio’s Aide Explains Why His Wife Visited the Senate Chamber
Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s wife, Ekaette Akpabio, visited the Senate chamber to inspect reported faults in its facilities and equipment, according to an aide to the Senate President. Jibril Tafida, the Special Adviser on Diaspora and NGOs, said the Saturday visit followed complaints by senators and National Assembly staff about poor facilities and concerns over contractors’ work. He said it was scheduled outside legislative hours and approved by the Senate President. Tafida said she was accompanied by engineers and technical specialists in electrical, ICT, audio-visual systems and building maintenance. He denied claims that the visit involved unauthorised persons or breached security protocols, insisting that relevant officials were informed.
