Customs Seizes Expired Noodles, Drugs and 3,300 Explosive Cartridges at Seme Border

Nigeria Customs Service officials at the Seme Area Command have intercepted a truckload of 1,306 sacks of expired noodles allegedly intended for repackaging and sale in Nigerian markets. The products were reportedly decomposing and could have exposed consumers to serious health risks. The command also seized 1,268 bags of smuggled foreign rice, 373 parcels of cannabis, tramadol and tapentadol packs, 310,000 cigarettes, and 3,300 cartridges of explosives. The explosives have been handed to the police bomb disposal unit, while the drugs and unregistered pharmaceuticals will be transferred to NDLEA and NAFDAC. Other seized items included a speedboat, water bike and used vehicles. Customs valued the seizures at ₦365.16 million and said the command generated ₦19.84 billion in revenue between January and July.
