Sowore Seeks Sanctions Against Oyebanji, Ikogosi Marathon Organisers After Ekiti Attack
Omoyele Sowore has called for international sanctions against Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji and the organisers of the Ikogosi Marathon after he and members of his team were attacked in Ado-Ekiti on Friday. The African Action Congress presidential candidate said the organisers later barred him from Saturday’s 17.5km race, citing security concerns. They said he was not issued a race bib or cleared to participate, and insisted the decision was unrelated to his political views or ambitions. Sowore alleged that the attack was politically motivated and called for an independent investigation. The Ekiti Police Command said the incident followed an altercation at a restaurant and said its officers rescued and treated the injured. The state government had not responded to Sowore’s allegations at the time of reporting.
