Obi Calls for Urgent Action as Deadly Attacks Hit Benue, Plateau and Niger
Peter Obi has warned that Nigeria must not become a “killing field” as deadly attacks and abductions continue in several states. He cited an attack in Jwak Maitumbi, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, where officials reported 23 deaths while residents put the toll above 30. More than 45 homes were reportedly destroyed. He also referenced attacks in Borgu, Niger State, where reports said over 40 people were killed and more than 100 abducted, though the figures remain contested. Obi said communities in Benue were also facing repeated killings, abductions and destruction of homes and livelihoods. He urged federal and state authorities to improve intelligence, strengthen rapid-response systems, rescue abducted victims, and prosecute those responsible. He stressed that governments and security agencies must prevent attacks rather than only respond after lives have been lost.
