Tokyo Tops 2025 Global City GDP Ranking as Nigeria’s Economy Draws Comparison
Tokyo is ranked first among the world’s largest metropolitan economies in 2025, with estimated nominal GDP of $2.55 trillion. New York follows with $2.49 trillion, while Los Angeles, London and Seoul complete the top five. Other leading metro economies include Paris, Chicago, Osaka-Kobe, San Francisco, Shanghai, Beijing, Washington, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Boston, Singapore, Moscow, Seattle, Philadelphia and Atlanta. Atlanta is listed 20th at about $941.82 billion. Nigeria’s estimated national GDP of about $377 billion is lower than the GDP attributed to several of these large metropolitan areas. However, the comparison should be read carefully: the ranking uses metro-area GDP, while Nigeria’s figure covers the entire country. Atlanta’s metro economy also extends beyond the population of the City of Atlanta itself. Singapore is both a city and a sovereign country, making it a city-state.
