Borno Police Arrest Four Over Alleged ₦285,000 Mobile Banking Fraud, Recover 40 ATM Cards
Police in Borno State have arrested four suspects over the alleged unauthorised withdrawal of ₦285,000 from a Maiduguri resident’s account. Officers also recovered 40 OPay and Moniepoint ATM cards during the investigation. The victim reportedly said two men approached him in Shuwari II on October 25, posing as Moniepoint agents who could help increase his transaction limit. They allegedly collected his phone, accessed his account and withdrew the money without permission. Police said investigators traced the POS transactions to the agents involved, leading to the arrests. The suspects reportedly confessed, while the recovered cards have been kept as exhibits as investigations continue. Residents have been advised not to share their PINs, passwords, OTPs or banking details with strangers, and to report suspicious activity promptly.
