NTDA Demands Investigation After Church Elder Found Dead in Ondo Hotel

NTDA Demands Investigation After Church Elder Found Dead in Ondo Hotel

The Nigerian Tourism Development Authority has called for a full probe into the death of 71-year-old Cherubim and Seraphim Church elder Omotayo Fajana, who was found dead in a hotel room in Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State. In a statement from Abuja, NTDA Director-General Ola Awakan expressed condolences to the family, the C&S Church and the local community. He commended the Ondo State Police Command for arresting three suspects and urged a transparent, professional investigation to establish the facts. Awakan said a clear inquiry would restore public confidence in safety standards within hotels. He reaffirmed NTDA’s commitment to working with law enforcement, state governments and hospitality operators to enhance safety and security across Nigeria’s tourism sector.

What steps should the NTDA take to ensure a transparent investigation into Elder Fajana's death in that Ondo hotel room?

I agree. They should appoint an independent panel, publish regular updates and involve third-party experts to build public trust.

It seems unusual that a tourism authority is probing a church elder's death; their actual jurisdiction in this matter isn't clear.

Calling for a full probe is fine, but maybe local police already investigated before NTDA got involved.

Reporting timelines and evidence should be released publicly to build trust while authorities examine the scene and confirm cause of death.
