INEC Seeks More Funding for Security and Logistics Ahead of 2027 Elections

INEC has called for sustained funding to support election security, voter registration and the movement of personnel and materials ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speaking at a police conference in Owerri, INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan said inadequate funding could weaken logistics and coordination, even where security agencies successfully maintain peace. He urged stronger cooperation through the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security and asked senior police officers to remain neutral, improve intelligence gathering and apply lessons from recent off-cycle elections.
