Senator Umeh Questions Fresh Borrowing as Living Costs Rise
Senator Victor Umeh has questioned the Federal Government’s request for additional external loans, arguing that fresh borrowing is difficult to justify after reported revenue gains. The Anambra Central lawmaker said the government should show how previous loans have improved infrastructure and eased hardship for Nigerians. He cited rising fuel and diesel prices, as well as the declining purchasing power of many households. Umeh also criticised the delayed implementation of the 2026 capital budget and said no work had started on the Eastern Rail Line despite a $3 billion loan allocation. He called for a clear account of earlier borrowings before more loans are approved.
