CBN Urges Traders to Handle Naira Notes Properly as Replacement Costs Rise
The Central Bank of Nigeria has urged Nigerians, especially traders, to keep naira notes clean and avoid folding, tearing or mutilating them. At a public awareness campaign at Galadima Market in Kano, the bank said damaged notes have to be replaced with public funds. It added that proper handling can extend the lifespan of currency in circulation. The CBN chose markets for the campaign because traders handle large volumes of cash daily. The Galadima Market Traders Association said it would help educate traders and customers on preserving naira notes.
