Sambisa Forest Is as Large as Belgium, Hindering Rescue Operations — Defence Minister Musa
Defence Minister Christopher Musa says the vast size and difficult terrain of Sambisa Forest are slowing efforts to rescue people kidnapped by terrorists. Speaking during a television interview, Musa said security agencies are rescuing many abductees, but kidnappers often move deep into forest areas before authorities receive intelligence about an attack. He said Sambisa Forest is comparable in size to Belgium. Musa said troops sometimes cut off kidnappers’ movement routes and supplies to force the release of victims. He also said authorities are monitoring suspicious financial transactions linked to ransom payments and warned governors to be cautious about distributing motorcycles, which could be diverted to criminal groups.
