Four Killed as Sand Excavation Pit Collapses in Plateau Community
Four people have died after a sand excavation pit collapsed in Tangur community, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State. The incident occurred at about 2:20 p.m. on September 22, 2026. Troops of Operation Enduring Peace reportedly responded after receiving a report that suspected illegal miners were trapped in the collapse along a river line. One victim was identified as Mallam Fahad Aliyu, while the identities of three women were not immediately confirmed. Their bodies were recovered by relatives for burial. Security personnel are investigating the circumstances of the collapse and the reported illegal mining activities in the area.
