Customs Seizes ₦3.15bn Smuggled Goods, Codeine and Military Caps in Ogun
The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun I Area Command, says it intercepted 43 consignments of smuggled goods valued at ₦3.153 billion within 15 days at the Idiroko border axis. The seizures included codeine-based cough syrup, other unregistered medicines, 321 military camouflage face caps, foreign rice, cannabis, used vehicles, clothing, tyres and shoes. Customs also intercepted three trucks carrying more than 15,000 cartons of foreign pasta allegedly concealed in transit. Customs said five trucks involved in the major seizures were valued at about ₦1.235 billion and would be forfeited to the Federal Government. The NDLEA said the codeine and camouflage items could pose public-health and security risks, adding that it would investigate and prosecute suspects linked to the drugs.
