Northern Leaders Must Take Responsibility for Education and Poverty, Speaker Says
A speaker at a book presentation on the life and legacy of Ghani Fawehinmi has urged Northern political and traditional leaders to take greater responsibility for education, poverty and unemployment in the region. He said years of inadequate investment in quality education and opportunities for ordinary people have worsened insecurity and other social problems. He argued that leaders who have held office over the past three decades must stop shifting blame and be held accountable for the region’s condition. The speaker also criticised universities that charge fees in foreign currency despite widespread poverty. He urged Nigerians to reject ethnic and religious divisions and focus public debate on education, jobs, poverty and accountable leadership.
