Dele Farotimi Leaves Afenifere After 28-Year Association

Human rights lawyer and political activist Dele Farotimi has announced his departure from Afenifere, ending an association with the Yoruba socio-political group that began in 1998. In a statement issued on Tuesday, Farotimi said he had formally severed ties with the organisation and its leadership. He added that Afenifere’s leadership would no longer represent his views and that he would no longer identify with its positions or actions. Farotimi did not disclose the reasons for his decision, describing it as painful but necessary. He said his commitment to the social democratic principles associated with the Action Group and Afenifere remains unchanged.
