The Foreign Ministry said James Uchechukwu Nwankwo died in Cape Town on September 5 after allegedly being subjected to “gruesome interrogation techniques” by South African police officers. Taiwo Michael Fakunle, a bishop, was found dead at his home in Kensington, Johannesburg, on September 4. Authorities have not disclosed a motive or identified suspects. Nigeria says the incidents raise serious questions about the protection of foreign nationals in South Africa.
