Ibori Pays Tribute to Dele Cole’s Niger Delta Advocacy
Former Delta State Governor James Ibori has mourned Patrick Dele Cole, describing the late Niger Delta leader as a firm advocate of true federalism and resource control. Cole, who was from Abonnema in Rivers State, died in London at the age of 86. Ibori said he remained committed to the aspirations of the Niger Delta, including while serving as a special adviser during former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration. He said Cole accepted the political costs of supporting the region’s cause and that his contributions to Nigeria and the Niger Delta would be remembered. Ibori urged Cole’s family to find comfort in God.
