INEC Approves 66 Petitions, Rejects 64 Over 2027 Candidate Lists
The Independent National Electoral Commission has approved 66 petitions and rejected 64 complaints filed by political parties over candidate lists for the 2027 governorship and state assembly elections. The complaints involved omitted parties, wrongly included candidates and alleged multiple nominations. For governorship contests, INEC received 69 petitions from 12 parties across 26 states, approving 41 and rejecting 28. For state assembly elections, the commission received 61 petitions from 11 parties in 11 states. It upheld 25 complaints and rejected 36, saying names wrongly published or nominations that did not meet legal requirements have been removed. INEC said the updated lists of affected candidates, parties and states will be published as part of efforts to ensure a transparent 2027 electoral process.
