FG Gives ₦250m to Families of 37 Miners Who Died in NSCDC Custody, Promises Justice
Vice-President Kashim Shettima has announced a ₦250 million donation for the families of 37 suspected illegal miners who died while in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Niger State. During a condolence visit to Niger State, Shettima described the deaths as a stain on the nation’s conscience. He said people in state custody remain entitled to protection, regardless of the allegations against them. The Vice-President said anyone found responsible would be held accountable. Governor Umaru Bago called for stronger mining-sector regulation and safer, legal opportunities for young people, saying the September 17 tragedy must not be repeated.
