Peter Obi’s 2027 Plans Need a Clear Funding Roadmap
Peter Obi’s proposed agenda focuses on shifting Nigeria from consumption to production, while improving security, education, healthcare, jobs, energy and infrastructure. These ambitions may be important, but Nigerians should ask how they will be funded. Cutting waste, improving tax collection, redirecting public funds and attracting private investment are often proposed as solutions. The campaign should provide clear estimates of expected savings, new revenue, borrowing needs and the role of private capital. Nigerians also need to know which existing expenditures would be reduced to create room for new priorities. Production-led growth takes time and substantial investment. Farmers, manufacturers and technology businesses need security, electricity, finance, transport and access to markets before they can generate the growth and tax revenue being promised. This is not an argument against Obi’s proposals. The same scrutiny should apply to every 2027 candidate. Nigerians deserve specific budgets, timelines, targets and measurable outcomes—not only broad promises of transformation.
