Bandits Kill Abducted Niger Farmer, Demand ₦50m Levy From Mariga Communities
Suspected bandits reportedly killed Abdullahi Garba, one of more than 100 people abducted during an attack on Shadadi and nearby communities in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State. Residents said the attackers demanded 10 jerry cans of petrol and two cartons of engine oil for Garba’s release. Although his relatives later provided the items, they were reportedly given his remains instead. The bandits also allegedly imposed a ₦50 million levy on the affected communities as a condition for residents to access their farms during the farming season. The Shadadi village head said the attackers threatened to kill more abductees if the levy was not paid.
