Putin Meets Trump Envoys in Moscow as Ukraine Peace Talks Restart
Russian President Vladimir Putin has met US President Donald Trump’s envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, in Moscow as renewed efforts begin to end the war in Ukraine. The US delegation is expected to travel to Ukraine with a proposed peace plan. The talks are the first direct meeting between Putin and the American representatives in months, but major disagreements remain over occupied territories, security guarantees and the terms of a ceasefire. Ahead of the visit, the Kremlin said Putin ordered a three-day pause in strikes on Kyiv. However, reported attacks elsewhere in Ukraine, including Dnipropetrovsk and the Kyiv region, have raised doubts about Russia’s commitment to the diplomatic process. President Volodymyr Zelensky alleged that strikes near Kyiv airports were intended to disrupt the envoys’ arrival. Putin has said a peace deal may be possible, while maintaining Russia’s position on territorial issues.
