Ogbomoso Celebrates as Pupils and Teachers Held for 56 Days Are Rescued
Residents of Ogbomoso, Oyo State, poured into the streets in joyous celebration after pupils and teachers who spent 56 days in captivity were freed. The victims were abducted on May 15 in coordinated attacks on three schools in Oriire Local Government Area. Heavily armed gunmen took dozens into the nearby forest. A joint operation by federal security agencies secured the hostages without yielding to the kidnappers’ demands. Eight suspects have been arrested and others were neutralised during the raid. The successful rescue has brought relief to families and the wider community. What more should be done to strengthen security around schools across Nigeria?
