Why I Support Tinubu’s Continuity Only If His Reforms Deliver Results
I believe President Tinubu’s reforms need time to mature before Nigerians make a final judgment. Fuel subsidy removal and exchange-rate unification have brought severe hardship, but I think their promised benefits should be tested properly. These include higher allocations to states, less fuel smuggling and renewed investor confidence. I also think long-term projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the Sokoto-Badagry Highway and the student loan scheme require continuity. Major infrastructure and economic programmes cannot be fairly assessed after only a few years. However, continuity should not be automatic. The cost of living crisis is clear, and many Nigerians are struggling. If inflation, local refining, production and living conditions do not improve, then the government should be voted out in 2027.
