Nigeria Seeks Justice After Three Citizens Die in South Africa

Nigeria’s Consulate-General in Johannesburg has called for a thorough investigation into the deaths of three Nigerians in separate incidents in South Africa between September 18 and 21. Kenechukwu Igwemmadu reportedly died after falling from a building in Bloemfontein while trying to escape alleged police harassment. Olaniyi Olatunde, a security guard, was reportedly shot after an argument at a nightclub in Pretoria and later died in hospital. Christian Nnaemeka was also reported dead after an encounter with Xolani Khumalo and members of the Sizok’thola team in Ekurhuleni. The consulate said he was allegedly assaulted and later collapsed while attempting to escape. The Consulate-General urged South African authorities to identify and prosecute anyone responsible, while asking Nigerians in the country to remain calm, law-abiding and security-conscious.
