Iran Strikes US Bases in Bahrain and Kuwait After US Military Attacks
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced it targeted key US military sites in Bahrain and Kuwait on Wednesday. This came after the US launched strikes on Iran in response to tanker attacks in the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC said it used missiles and drones against Bandar Salman naval base, Bahrain’s Fifth Naval District, and Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait. It also shot down a US MQ-9 drone attempting to interfere. US Central Command had earlier hit more than 60 small boats belonging to the IRGC and revoked Iran’s oil export license. CENTCOM described Iran’s counterattack as a dangerous breach of the ceasefire and a threat to freedom of navigation. Tehran’s top military command condemned the US strikes as an act of aggression. They vowed a crushing response and warned against foreign interference in managing the strait. Iran’s parliament speaker accused the US of violating the ceasefire with both military strikes and renewed sanctions.
