Former PDP National Chairman Bamanga Tukur Dies at 90

Bamanga Tukur, former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, has died at the age of 90, his family announced. He died on Saturday, three days before his 91st birthday. Born on September 15, 1935, in Adamawa State, Tukur was a politician, businessman and administrator. He served as governor of the former Gongola State from 1982 until the military coup of December 1983. He was also minister of industries under the Sani Abacha administration and previously led the Nigerian Ports Authority as general manager and chief executive. Tukur served as PDP national chairman from 2012 to 2014. Outside public office, he founded BHI Holdings and held leadership roles in several African business organisations. He was also known by the traditional titles of Tafidan Adamawa and Wakilin Ganye.
