SAN Ubani Blasts Federal Delays, Hails Abia Govt’s Revival of Umuahia–Ikot Ekpene Road
In a recent statement, SAN Dr. Monday Onyekachi Ubani challenged the Federal Ministry of Works’ claim that the Umuahia–Ikwuano–Ikot Ekpene Road is still under federal supervision and funding. He noted that the Abia State Government had already engaged a contractor to complete the long-delayed project. Ubani said years of uncoordinated construction and persistent delays forced the state’s intervention. He recalled that the contract, awarded in 2019 under former President Buhari, made little progress and left vital sections in a deplorable state. Highlighting the road’s importance as an economic corridor linking Abia to Akwa Ibom and beyond, he warned that residents and motorists continued to suffer daily hardships. “The road must be finished to end the suffering of the people,” he declared. He added that completing this strategic inter-state route would boost commerce and improve connectivity between the South-East and South-South regions.
