Ex-NAPTIP DG Alleges Women Use Steroids to Fake Pregnancy and Traffick Babies
A former Director-General of NAPTIP claims some women in Nigeria inject steroids to appear pregnant. She says these women mimic morning sickness and even stage caesarean incisions to deceive their husbands. According to her interview on a popular podcast, the women obtain babies separately and present them as their own once the husbands are sent away on errands or travel. She also notes that many cases involve twins, triplets or more, making the deception easier. She argues that alongside paternity tests, maternity tests should be conducted to expose instances where a woman did not give birth to the child. This, she believes, could help uncover organised baby trafficking networks.
