Nursing Mother Hospitalised After Stepmother Allegedly Poured Hot Water on Her in Maiduguri
A breastfeeding mother, Zara Muhammad, has reportedly suffered severe burns after her stepmother allegedly poured hot water on her during an argument in the Kofa area of Maiduguri, Borno State. A neighbour said residents rushed in after hearing her screams and found the woman allegedly being pressed against spilled hot water. The victim said the dispute began after her toddler tried to enter the stepmother’s room and tensions continued for several days. Neighbours alleged that Zara had endured hardship and maltreatment since giving birth. Her father denied claims that she was neglected, saying she was taken to hospital. Following intervention by the Borno State Ministry of Women Affairs, she was evacuated for treatment, while the stepmother was reportedly arrested.
