Open Letter Questions Anambra Malaria Loan During Peter Obi’s Tenure
I am asking for clarification over records said to show that Anambra State received a $48.33 million malaria-related loan during Peter Obi’s administration, alongside other loans reportedly totalling $123.7 million. The state’s 2014 health budget was reportedly about ₦5.08 billion. At the exchange rate at the time, the malaria loan alone would have exceeded that amount. Yet public hospitals faced complaints, doctors reportedly protested unpaid salary arrears, and malaria remained a serious health concern. If these figures are accurate, I believe Anambra residents deserve a clear account of how the malaria funds were used and what outcomes they achieved.
