Kogi Court Sentences 24-Year-Old Man to Death for Killing Father
A High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State, has sentenced 24-year-old Dahiru Abbah to death by hanging for the killing of his father, Dahiru Yusuf, in Sarkin-Noma, Lokoja. Justice M. M. Gwatana found Abbah guilty of culpable homicide punishable by death under the Kogi State Penal Code. The court held that the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that he inflicted the fatal injuries that led to his father’s death in October 2024. The prosecution called nine witnesses and presented exhibits including a knife, blood samples, forensic reports and the defendant’s blood-stained clothing. Although no witness directly saw the attack, the judge ruled that the circumstantial evidence was sufficient. The conspiracy charge was dismissed for lack of evidence, while the defence said it would appeal the conviction.
