Abuja Woman Seeks Court Order Over Alleged Police Harassment Linked to Marriage Dispute
A woman has asked the FCT High Court in Abuja to stop the police from allegedly arresting, detaining or threatening her over a dispute connected to her planned marriage. She alleged that officers arrested her at her Jabi residence on August 6, seized her phones for forensic examination and pressured her to make a statement without her lawyer present. She also claimed she was made to apologise to another woman before she was released on bail. The applicant and her fiancé said the dispute was civil and matrimonial in nature. They are seeking interim protection for their rights while clarifying that the police may still investigate any genuine criminal allegation through due process.
