What It Really Costs to Import a Copart or IAAI Car Into Nigeria

I found that many car-import discussions mention charges without giving clear figures. Here are key costs to confirm before bidding on a Copart or IAAI vehicle. Nigeria Customs applies a 12-year vehicle import limit based on the manufacture date on the VIN plate, not simply the model year. Confirm the date before placing a bid, as an older vehicle may not be eligible for import. The National Automotive Council levy was reduced from 15% to 5% from July 1, 2026. Other charges include 20% duty, a 0.5% ETLS levy, a 7% surcharge on duty, and 7.5% VAT on the combined assessable charges. I created a free calculator to help estimate these costs before you bid. It also supports imports into Ghana.
