CSO Petitions Lagos Assembly Over Alleged Encroachment on Ojaekomo Family’s 27.65 Hectares
The Centre for Public Accountability and Social Well-being has petitioned the Lagos State House of Assembly over an alleged attempt to encroach on 27.65 hectares of land allocated to the Ojaekomo family at Sapata Village, Ajiran, Eti-Osa. The group alleged that Bashiru Fakorede and members of the Ojomu Chieftaincy Family interfered with the property despite a 2023 Assembly resolution that divided the disputed 60-hectare wetland between both families. The resolution allocated 32.42 hectares to the Ojomu family and 27.65 hectares to the Ojaekomo family. CPASW also alleged harassment, intimidation, unlawful arrests and the deployment of armed persons during the dispute. It asked the Assembly and security agencies to independently investigate the claims, verify the survey plans and ensure that the allocated land is properly demarcated, subject to pending court proceedings. The Ojomu family and Fakorede have not been reported to have responded publicly to the allegations in the petition.
