Nigeria’s Q2 GDP Grows 4.43% as Stronger Naira Lifts Dollar Value by 17%
Nigeria’s real GDP grew by 4.43% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, its fastest quarterly expansion in five years, according to National Bureau of Statistics data cited by the Federal Ministry of Finance. Nominal GDP rose to ₦119.29 trillion, from ₦100.73 trillion in the same quarter of 2025. The stronger naira also increased the economy’s value when converted to dollars, with the Finance Ministry estimating a 17% year-on-year rise in dollar terms. The ministry said the naira appreciated by more than 12% between the first half of 2025 and the first half of 2026, supported by external reserves of $53.34 billion. Services, agriculture and manufacturing all recorded stronger growth, as the government pointed to the figures as progress toward its target of a $1 trillion economy by 2030.
