NSCDC Arrests Ex-AEDC Worker, Others Over Alleged ₦350m Cable Theft in Abuja
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested a former Abuja Electricity Distribution Company worker and other suspects over the alleged vandalism of more than 15 kilometres of aluminium power cables along the Yangoji-Abaji axis in the FCT. The NSCDC said the cables were valued at over ₦350 million and were allegedly sold to traders in several Abuja markets. Operatives recovered a large quantity of the cables during a sting operation at Gudu Market and arrested suspected receivers, including a man accused of knowingly buying the items. A court order has been obtained to seal shops linked to the purchases. The Corps also announced arrests in separate cases involving alleged vehicle theft, armed robbery, child trafficking, power-cable vandalism and the theft of tractor batteries in Kwali. It said all suspects would be charged after investigations are concluded.
