INEC Maps Electoral Risks Across Plateau Ahead of 2027 Elections
INEC has begun assessing electoral risks across Plateau State’s 17 local government areas as part of preparations for the 2027 general election. At a risk-management workshop in Jos, the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner said ethnic and religious tensions, unemployment, poverty, kidnapping and political manipulation could threaten peaceful polls. The commission also identified public distrust, result collation and the transmission of results as key areas requiring attention. Participants were urged to develop practical, evidence-based strategies and sustain cooperation among electoral, security and civil society stakeholders.
