Kano Court Jails “Mai Siket” for 20 Years Over Raping 85-Year-Old Woman
A Kano State High Court has sentenced 32-year-old Muhammad Zulfalalu, known as “Mai Siket,” to 20 years’ imprisonment for raping an 85-year-old woman. He was also given a concurrent six-year term for housebreaking and ordered to pay the victim ₦500,000 in compensation. Zulfalalu was arrested on June 9, 2020 in Kiru Local Government after confessing to raping more than 40 females over a year. He admitted unlawfully entering homes at night and assaulting elderly women, young girls, and married women. The prosecution presented six witnesses and proved guilt on nine counts under Sections 283 and 356 of the Penal Code. Delivering judgment on June 23, 2026, Justice Aisha Mahmoud found the prosecution’s case beyond reasonable doubt. She upheld the sentences to run concurrently and emphasized the state’s commitment to protecting vulnerable persons from sexual violence. The Kano State Attorney-General praised the conviction as a step toward strengthening public confidence in the justice system. He warned that anyone found guilty of sexual and gender-based violence would face the full weight of the law.
