Bandit Ambush in Kaduna Kills Girl, Kidnaps Nine from School Vehicle
Suspected bandits ambushed a vehicle carrying schoolchildren from Akwando village to Kachia on the morning of April 26. The attackers opened fire just minutes after the journey began. A young girl, Purity Babangida, was tragically killed in the chaos while fleeing. According to the local development association’s spokesman, 25 passengers were aboard when the gunmen blocked the road three kilometres from Akwando. Fifteen people jumped from the vehicle and trekked through the bush for hours to reach nearby villages safely. Nine individuals remain in captivity. They include six students—Augustina Muntari, Happy Muntari, Favour Tanimu, Patience Joseph, Peace Irimiya and Bishara Irimiya—alongside the driver, Irimiya Galadima, and two others, Fatu Danladi and Laraba Caleb. A former state governor’s media adviser also confirmed the attack on social media. Residents are urged to share any information that could help secure the children’s release.
