Colorado Man Sentenced to 26 Years After Kidnapping Good Samaritan
A Colorado man has been sentenced after he kidnapped a woman who stopped to help him when his car crashed. According to the Pueblo County District Attorney’s Office, 29-year-old Shane McSwane pleaded guilty on June 12 to kidnapping and attempted aggravated robbery. After forcing the victim into her own vehicle, McSwane drove erratically for four hours along Interstate 25, threatened a gas station clerk with a firearm, and led deputies on a high-speed pursuit. He was finally stopped by tire spikes and a coordinated PIT maneuver by county law enforcement. The judge handed down two consecutive 13-year sentences, requiring McSwane to serve 85 percent of the term—approximately 22.1 years—before he can be considered for parole. The DA’s office praised the deputies for their swift action and expressed relief that both the victim and the clerk were unharmed.
