Edo Governor Says He Will Sign Death Warrants if Convicted Kidnappers Do Not Appeal
Edo Governor Monday Okpebholo says he will sign the death warrants of four convicted kidnappers if they do not file appeals within 30 days. The four were sentenced to death by the Edo State Special Criminal Court on September 29 over the abduction of a woman at a vegetable market along Airport Road in Benin City. The governor said tackling kidnapping, cultism and other crimes has been a priority for his administration. Speaking at a church service in Ekpoma, Okpebholo said he had warned traditional rulers not to seek leniency for people involved in criminal activity. He also said he had raised Edo's security concerns with President Bola Tinubu. During the service, the church's founder urged members to support Okpebholo and his preferred candidates in the 2027 elections.
