NSCDC Arrests Three Over Alleged Illegal Sand Mining in Anambra
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Anambra has arrested three men over alleged illegal sharp-sand mining at Obiaja River near the Nnobi-Ideani Junction in Idemili South LGA. The command said its Mines and Steel Development Unit carried out the raid on August 26 with officials from the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, acting on intelligence. Two tippers, six shovels and a wheelbarrow were recovered at the site. The suspects allegedly admitted they had no authorisation or required documents for the mining activity. The NSCDC said investigations are ongoing and the suspects will be charged after they are concluded. It also warned against unregulated mining and urged residents to report suspected cases.
