Tricycle Driver’s Secret Igbo Message Foils Abia Kidnappers
A tricycle driver and a farmer were abducted by six gunmen in Ohuhu, Umuahia North. They were taken into the Udengwu forest and threatened with death unless a ₦10 million ransom was paid. From his hospital bed, the driver explained how he used Igbo instead of English when the kidnappers handed him his phone. He quietly told his family the exact forest location before the captors realised what he had done and threatened him. Local youths and community leaders quickly mobilised and combed the area. By midnight, the Umuawa Alaocha security team rescued both victims and the bandits fled under the cover of darkness. Hon. Obi Aguocha of Ikwuano/Umuahia condemned the attack and urged heightened vigilance across Ohuhu and other parts of Igboland to curb rising banditry.
