1,800 Manhole Covers, 1km of Fencing Stolen From Lagos Coastal Road Since January

Authorities say vandals have stolen about 1,800 manhole covers from the Lagos Coastal Road since January. The suspects reportedly break the concrete covers to remove the metal reinforcement inside. About one kilometre of the road's clear-view fencing has also been removed, along with roughly 75 directional signs. The thefts create safety risks for motorists, pedestrians and visitors unfamiliar with the route. Officials say they are working with the police and the recently launched Coastal Guard to curb further vandalism and arrest those responsible.
