Abuja Commuters Report Cheaper CNG Bus Fares, but Availability Remains Limited
Some commuters in the Federal Capital Territory say CNG-powered buses have reduced fares on selected routes. Passengers in a government-backed video said the Masaka-to-Berger fare had fallen from ₦1,500 to ₦500. President Bola Tinubu said lower transport costs would ease pressure on families facing food, bills and other household expenses. The CNG transport programme has also sparked mixed reactions, with some Nigerians welcoming the savings and others questioning its reach. Checks found that CNG buses charged ₦500 from Berger to Nyanya Junction, but the buses were not regularly available. Many commuters still had to use conventional commercial vehicles, while many Nigerians outside the FCT are yet to see lower fares.
