Ayo Animashaun Defends Taking The Headies Awards Abroad
The Headies founder, Ayo Animashaun, has defended the decision to host the awards outside Nigeria, saying the move reflects the organisers’ long-term vision and has the backing of sponsors and artistes. He criticised artistes who submit their work for international awards but do not enter the Headies, only to complain when they are not nominated. According to him, artistes should participate in the local awards process before questioning their exclusion. Animashaun said the organisers will continue to stand by decisions they believe will expand the platform and strengthen its global reach.
